The Town Council consists of 16 elected members who serve for a four-year term of office. The town is divided into two wards, Mill Ward and Brook Ward, and there are 16 elected members serving on the Town Council and 4 elected members serving on South Northants Council. Main council meetings are held in the Town Hall on the second Monday of the month and the attendance of members of the public is welcomed. The council administers the Town Hall, a fine Victorian building situated in a prominent position on the Market Square. In addition to office space, the main hall is let to the public for cultural and recreational events and also hosts a weekly market.

Towcester Town Council maintains play areas in the town and open areas including the Recreation Ground, Belle Baulk, part of The Shires, Northampton Road, and the Riverside Walk.

They act as trustees of the Towcester Community Centre, Islington Road, which serves as a venue for a variety of local clubs and organisations and maintains the Cemetery on the Brackley Road in Towcester.

The Council is responsible for upkeep of the toilets in Moat Lane and the provision of sixty dog bins around the Town.

The Town Council work closely with Towcester Business Club to provide window boxes in the Summer and Christmas trees during December each year.

The Town Crier is published by the Town Council and delivered to every resident in Towcester five times a year.
