CEMETERY COMMITTEE MEETING

MONDAY 17TH MARCH 2008

 

Present :-   Cllr R Mills (Chairman), Cllr J. Godwin, Cllr A. Maycock, Cllr C. Stanger,

                 Cllr A. Wardle, Cllr H. Wright

No members of the public were present.

 

4.    ALLOTMENTS

 

a.    Rental agreement 1st April 2008 – 31st March 2009

Committee members had received a copy of the current rental agreement prior to the meeting.

Cllr Wardle proposed one amendment to condition 10 of the agreement.

To read :- Individual fires are only allowed if contained in a small brazier or fire pit.

Amendment agreed by the committee.

b. Tree surgery

Tree surgery works were due to take place on 11 th March but had been postponed due to inclement weather. The Clerk will check with the Estate to verify when this work will be rescheduled. Cllr Wardle asked the Clerk to contact the contractors with regard to the protection of produce on the allotment land when the tree is felled.

5.    Cemetery Lodge / Cemetery Chapel

       Quotations for maintenance / repair works

 

The Clerk informed the meeting that a schedule of works had been sent to:-

 

  D.J. Hutchings

  Bennie Construction

  R Fagan

D.J. Hutchings was the only contractor to quote for the proposed works, as follows:-

 

Cemetery lodge………………………….. £7,746

Cemetery chapel……………………….... £1,845

 

Quotations were in line with budgeted figures put forward by Paxton Brown, except   the work to the North West flashings on the chapel.

 

The committee discussed the quotation and Cllr Stanger proposed:-

The Committee accept the quotation for the works to the Cemetery Lodge.

The Clerk to verify the work for the cemetery chapel.

Seconded by Cllr J Godwin,

Unanimously agreed.

 

6.    Council Policy Regarding Burials for Outside the Towcester Area

Committee members put forward their views on recent requests for burials at the

Brackley Road Cemetery from outside of Towcester. It was apparent that it would be difficult to impose firm rules due to the complexity of individual cases. Cllr Godwin said it would be difficult to have a policy when there could be many variations of requests for burials at the cemetery

Cllr Wardle proposed that:-

The Council should not accept burials from the surrounding villages. Requests from individuals should be discussed and agreed by the Chairman, Town Mayor and the Clerk.

Seconded by Cllr Godwin,

Unanimously agreed.

 

7.    Cemetery Chapel

Committee members had received details of the Preliminary intrusive investigation report regarding subsidence damage to the Cemetery Chapel.

The Chairman highlighted recommendations for several courses of action and the Committee discussed the remedial works required.

Cllr Godwin proposed that:-

The Clerk obtain quotations for mass underpinning and associated remedial works.

Unanimously agreed.
