The sound of music filled the centre of Towcester on the Summer Solstice weekend as the Town celebrated its sixth Midsummer Music festival, presided over by Deputy Mayor, Cllr Chris Lofts.

The weekend got underway on the Friday evening with a special concert performed by the Towcester Rock School . The district's up-and-coming rock stars, some as young as 11 years old, entertained a packed audience in Towcester's Town Hall.

Saturday, the festivities continued and were opened by the Milton Keynes Pipe Band, and the Royal Oak Morris Dancers. Throughout the Town there was a choice of entertainment, ranging from the vocal power of the Towcester Choral Society to Peruvian pipe music. The 5 Ways Byfield Barbershop Harmony Club shared the stage of the Town Hall and provided a contrast to Towcester's local rock band, Real Rabitzkin, whilst, at the other end of the Market Square, the Lincoln Noel Trio played jazz to packed audiences and On the Run provided a continuous programme of Rock Classics. Around the Town the music continued with John Smith's organ recital, tenor Richard Stark, the keyboard skills of David Rowden and the bands of TVision and the Bromptons.

Further evidence of Towcester's young musical talent was provided by the Sponne School Musicians who performed from their wide ranging musical repertoire with the Towcester Studio Band. As well as local talent, the audiences were also entertained by the folk music of the Rambling Boys from Bath and jazz from the Magnolia 4 from Downside School , whilst the Market Square resounded to a 54 key fairground organ from Wiltshire .
