Born in South Wales, Martin moved to Towcester with his late first wife, Gill, in 1982. Together they brought up their two children, who still live in our town. Martin is a retired youth and community worker, ending his career as a Manager at Milton Keynes YMCA. Martin has a master's degree in policy studies, and an MA in creative writing.
Martin Johns was first elected to the town council as a Liberal Democrat, at a by-election in 1991 and has been previously elected as Towcester Town Mayor on three occasions. Martin was first elected as a district councillor in 1995, serving until South Northants Council was abolished in 2021. Martin is actively involved in local voluntary organisations, including being a trustee of South Northants Youth Engagement, and Towcester Combined Charities. Other interests of his include writing, and his poetry pamphlet Resting Place was published by Palewell Press in 2019.
Martin and his wife Christine have six grandchildren, spread between Towcester, Manchester, and California.
During his Mayoral year, Martin will be fundraising for the Cynthia Spencer Hospice and local youth groups, including Towcester Scouts and Guides.
