A5 Roadworks Update 10th October 2018

Update on works from Highways England:

"I have been advised that on Thursday 11th October 2018, we will be returning to Phase 4 to carry out works which were suspended on Thursday 16th August 2018 following two near miss incidents which put our workforce at risk of serious injury or death.

These works include re-setting an existing road gully within the lay-by adjacent to the northbound lane and cleansing the existing road gullies and surface water drainage pipelines with a jetting machine. We will then use specialist CCTV cameras to carry out inspections of the cleansed pipelines and carry out repairs where required using trenchless technology only.

I apologise for any disruption these works may cause. Please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey.

The off-street parking permit system for residents within Phase 4 will not be required during these works.

An inspection of the recently laid carriageway surfacing in Phases 2a and 2b (part), between the Saracens Head Hotel and Market Square, has flagged up two minor areas of ponding. One area is in the southbound lane opposite the Saracens Head Hotel and the other is in the northbound lane by the Pelican crossing just north of Park Street. Rather than remediate these areas with small patches, we will mill and remove the existing surface to a depth of 40mm over the full width of each lane and an approximate length of 15 metres in both locations, apply tack coat to the milled surface, paint the vertical joints with bitumen and then machine lay an asphalt surface course material to a compacted thickness of 40mm. The road studs either side of the Pelican crossing in the northbound lane will also be removed and replaced. This work will be carried out on Friday 12th October 2018.

Access for deliveries will be maintained during these remedial works and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

NB: Please note that all our planned road works may be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

To help us identify and make improvements to our responses, I would be very grateful if you could please take our feedback survey by clicking here

Kind regards
