URGENT: Foodbank requests donations

URGENT: Foodbank requests donations

Please share this appeal to as many people as possible; this is a service run by the community for the community.

Today we face unprecedented times in the history of the Foodbank, with more people than ever turning to food banks to provide them with emergency food in times of crisis. This is not just happening in Towcester but in the whole of the UK. You may have seen high profile articles in the press following the publishing of the Trussell Trust's review of food banks.

In October, Towcester Foodbank provided food for 232 people, of which 106 were children; the same time last year it was 132 people (94% of people coming to a food bank are destitute*), an increase in 100 people year on year. Last week alone, emergency food was provided for 78 people, compared to 26 people last year (a three-fold increase). Towcester Foodbank predicts a challenging winter ahead.

Priorities for donations are protein, with meat at the top of the list; e.g. ham, steak and kidney pies, spam, meatballs, chilli con carne, corned beef, hot dogs or any other tinned meat, followed by fish. There are collection points in all the churches in the Towcester Area, in Waitrose, Tesco, Bell Plantation, BP, Nationwide in Towcester, Co-op in Towcester and Deanshanger and people can bring donations into the foodbank in St John's Ambulance Hall, Islington Road on Tuesday between 12 -2 and Friday between 10-12.

There are 46 people who currently volunteer for the Towcester Foodbank who give their time to support your donations getting to the people who need them. Do let them know about how you can help each other provide emergency food parcels to the Towcester Community. https://towcester.foodbank.org.uk/

Thank you for your support.
