Towcester Poppy Appeal 2020 Seeks Volunteers

The Towcester Branch of the Royal British Legion has secured permission from Waitrose to take collections and sell poppies for this year's appeal outside the store.

Branch representative, David Reed, said "This is really good news, especially for those who don't necessarily have regular access to the internet to make donations and purchase this year's poppies. More »

I am looking to run sessions on Saturday 24th, Sunday 25th, Friday 30th, Saturday 31st October, and Sunday 1st, Friday 6th and Saturday 7th November. Subject to getting enough volunteers, we hope to welcome poppy buyers on Friday and Saturday from 10am to 6pm and Sundays 10am to 4pm. We will set up in the empty trolley bay near the ATM machines."

As the new arrangements were only recently agreed, it is too late to set up the usual rota, but if you can help for an hour or two on any of the collection days, please contact David with your phone number. The stand will be under cover, so make sure that you dress for the weather. PPE masks and gloves and plenty of hand sanitiser will be available.

"Everything will be set up so that customers will be unable to touch any of the products, which will be on display, but we will pass them over onto a separate table after the customer has pointed out what they want. I have a credit card reader so we can handle contactless payments, but a collecting can will also be available for the diehard cash users. With reasonable care we can make this as safe as possible for all concerned." David added.

This will be the only physical outlet for the Poppy Appeal in Towcester this year so David hopes that people who have volunteered at other locations in the past and new volunteers will come forward to assist.

"I wish to thank everyone who has helped in the past; it is always very much appreciated. But I am aware that there will be some volunteers who, due to personal circumstances, are unable to assist this year, which is why I am putting out this appeal for help."

Please email David with your telephone number to arrange a day/time to volunteer.
