TOWN CLERK

Towcester Town Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Town Clerk to act as the Council’s Head of Paid Service and Proper Officer.

SCP46-SCP54 (£58,523k to £72,307k) dependant on skills and experience.
37 hours per week with evening meetings and weekend work, as required.
Towcester (Relocation package may be available for right candidate)
28 days holiday plus public/bank holidays

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the efficient administration of Council business and provide professional, impartial advice to Members.
  • Lead the organisation with strong strategic direction, fostering a positive and collaborative team culture.
  • Oversee daily operations, finances, staffing, assets, and compliance with all legislation.
  • Prepare agendas, support Council and committee meetings, and ensure decisions are implemented effectively.
  • Manage risk, health & safety, data protection, and organisational policies.
  • Lead communications, community engagement, and key projects aligned with Council priorities.
  • Act as the Council’s principal representative and main point of contact.
  • Ideally CiLCA qualified

OFFICE ADMINISTRATOR

We are seeking an enthusiastic, competent, organised and proactive person to join our small team of staff, to become responsible for the day to day administration of Towcester Town Council’s office at the Town Hall.

Salary: LC1 SCP10 to SCP13, £27,694.00 - £29,064.00 per annum, dependent on experience and qualifications.
Full time 37 hours per week (flexible) on site, core hours to be 9am to 3pm from Monday to Friday (plus occasional evening meetings)
28 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays

The successful candidate will be used to working under pressure and able to deal effectively with residents, customers, staff, councillors and visitor enquiries, both in person, by email and over the phone. 

Applicants should have strong attention to detail, with a proven track record in developing effective working relationships and communications across a range of stakeholders, be a team player along with possessing the ability to work on their own initiative. Education to GCSE level or equivalent (including maths and English) and computer literacy are essential.
