A43/A5 Roundabout Resurfacing : 16 May- 17 June
ESSENTIAL RESURFACING MAINTENANCE WORKS
ON THE A43/A5 TOWCESTER ROUNDABOUT
Further to previous works notifications, NH write to advise that the A43/A5 Towcester roundabout resurfacing scheme is now being re-programmed for Monday 16 May to Friday 17 June 2022.
This scheme has been re-scheduled to enable works on the major M1 junction 13 to 16 Smart Motorway scheme to progress as planned. This strategy also minimises disruption and confusion wherever possible with regards to works traffic diversions, and enables them to renew the A43/A5 Towcester roundabout prior to some major events, such as Silverstone Grand Prix.
Please note that in the meantime the condition of the A43/A5 Towcester roundabout surface will be monitored, and NH will be carrying out surfacing interventions as required to keep this roundabout surface safe and operational until the spring when the main works take place.
What does the work involve?
The maintenance work to the A43/A5 Towcester roundabout includes the approach and departure section to and from the A43/A5 Towcester roundabout of the A5, A43 and Towcester Road. During the comprehensive scheme of work, NH will repair and replace damaged drains, resurface the carriageway, renew any damaged kerbs, refresh road markings, install road studs and vegetation clearance works.
Once completed, all road users will benefit from improved road safety and a smoother driving experience.
When will the work take place?
Work is due to start on Monday 16 May to Friday 17 June 2022. To keep the programme for these works as short as possible and to minimise disruption to the local community, NH will work overnight between 8pm and 6am, Monday to Friday for approximately five weeks.
Please note that all planned works are subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances, such as clashes with other emergency work on the diversion routes.
How will the work affect traffic?
To maintain a safe environment for the workforce and motorists, NH will need to use full carriageway closures in phases while they work. The works phases will be split by closing the roundabout in two halves, closing one direction of the A43 through the roundabout (and the adjoining A5 arm) at a time.
During all road closures NH will put in place fully signed diversion routes which have been agreed with the Local Authority. All carriageways will be open as usual outside of our working hours.
Other A43 works
The current A43 northbound Northampton Road roundabout to Silverstone essential maintenance scheme will be paused from Thursday 3 March 2022 to allow essential safety works to be carried out on the A5 and the ongoing M1 works. We will be back at the end of March 2022 for approximately two weeks of overnight resurfacing to complete this scheme.
NH would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience and support while these works are underway.
The above programme changes provide a potential opportunity to co-ordinate some of the A43 southbound Towcester Roundabout to Northampton Road Roundabout scheme, which, if this can be realised, would reduce the overall impact and disruption of our roadworks. Therefore, this scheme has now been re-scheduled with an anticipated start on Monday 6 June 2022 for approximately 3 months.
NH will be sending out further notification updates nearer the time giving more precise timescales.
All carriageways will be open as usual outside of NH working times. Diversion routes are available on request, from the Public Liaison Officer.
How will the work affect businesses and residents?
NH will make sure that access to businesses and residences is maintained wherever possible.
Please be assured that all winter maintenance work i.e. gritting of the roads will be carried out as usual too.
