Anglian Water has recently completed work at Towcester Water Recycling Centre (WRC) which will provide additional resilience to extreme weather, help protect the local community from the impacts of heavy rainfall and flooding and support future growth in the area.

The sewer network in Towcester and the surrounding area is designed to carry both sewage and rainwater to the WRC, where it’s treated before being safely returned to the environment. However, during extreme weather events with heavy rainfall, such as those seen in recent years, the system can become overwhelmed with excess water.

Anglian Water stated, "The £12 million investment includes the construction of a storm tank which will be able to hold excess water during heavy rainfall until it can be treated and returned safely back into the environment.  As a result, the upgrades have added over a million litres of storage capacity - enough to hold 12,500 bathtubs of water."

"In terms of future investment, our business plan for 2025-2030 is our largest ever and will see us invest over £11 billion to future proof the region’s water infrastructure, with £1 billion being invested in tackling storm overflow spills, helping to protect communities like Towcester from the impacts of heavy rainfall and flooding."
